Pastry Pouches


Ever thought about making your own toaster pastry? I pinned several recipes but avoided them thinking the dough would be too difficult, but I was wrong- there is a secret. That secret is apple cider vinegar. This crucial tip and wonderful dough recipe come from the good folk at Unsophisticook.

(I don’t love vinegar either but I promise you won’t notice it!)

Throw this dough together, let it set in the fridge for 3 hours, roll, cut and fill as you like and bake them at 375 for 10-15 minutes. Don’t forget to seal & cover with eggwash!

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold butter
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice cold water
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar

I’ve filled these with nutella, jams, jellies and fruits. The dough supports more juice than you might expect, just make sure you seal them properly. In the photo, I’ve rolled the dough out as thin as the cookie cutter would allow for and then sealed them with a gentle pinch rather than pressing them on the pan (keeps shape better, less leakage, better pan removal).


These are great on the go breakfasts than can be quickly reheat in the toaster/oven. Enjoy!
